The Challenge

A design firm's newsletter isn't just a communication tool — it's a proof of concept. Every issue has to demonstrate that the firm thinks clearly, writes well, and has something worth saying. For a global multidisciplinary firm like Sasaki, that meant producing content that was intellectually credible, visually polished, and relevant enough to earn a read in a crowded inbox.

My Role

I wrote, and produced Sasaki's quarterly e-newsletter, In Context, contributing to the full process from editorial concept through design and distribution, sent to an audience of over 20,000 subscribers.

What I did

Editorial strategy and content planning Each issue was built around a central theme — a design idea, a market trend, or a cultural moment relevant to Sasaki's work and clients. I developed the editorial direction, identified stories worth telling, and shaped each issue into a cohesive read rather than a collection of updates.

Writing and editing I wrote the majority of the content — feature introductions, project spotlights, thought leadership pieces, and contributor summaries — in a voice that was smart and accessible without being dumbed down. Writing for a firm of designers means every word is scrutinized. It pushed the craft.

Design and production Laid out each issue within Sasaki's brand system, coordinating visuals, graphics, and project imagery to support the editorial narrative. Managed production and distribution on a consistent monthly cadence.

The Outcome

In Context consistently achieved an open rate above 32% — well above the industry average for design and architecture firms. Over 20,000 subscribers received each issue. The newsletter became a reliable touchpoint for clients, prospects, and industry peers, reinforcing Sasaki's voice and deepening the firm's external presence month after month.
